Accessibility

Accessibility is really important to us and we have taken measures to make sure that our Web site meets the AA standard as set out by the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. All pages were validated using Bobby.

Alt Tags

To ensure that people using text browsers, slower internet connections or a screen reader can interpret our content, all our images have ALT tags on them.

CSS

CSS has been used to overcome the difficulty screen readers have when interpreting tables.

Content Structure

We have tried to structure our content into a two tier hierarchy, and we have broken the content down into manageable chunks, using headings and paragraphs.

Contrast

When deciding on the colour scheme we ran the colour palette through Snook to make sure that we had adequate contrast between the foreground and the background.

Access Keys

Access keys are essentially keyboard shortcuts on a website that give a keyboard or screen-reader user quick and easy access to all the main areas of the site.

If you are using Windows pressing the ' Alt ' key in combination with the access key will highlight that link on the page, you then press ' Enter ' to select that link.

If you are using a Mac pressing the ' Command ' key in combination with the access key will automatically send you to that specific page.

The following are the access keys across Whale Hill Community Association pages:

' Alt ' + ' 0 ' - link to Site Map
